Clinical Study of Hepatic Derangement in Pulmonary Tuberculosis
Yeom Kwang-Yeol

Abstract
Conventional liver function to is were ompared with sorbitol tolerance test(STT) in detecting hepatic damage in 50 cases of palmunary tuberculosis. The needle biopsy of the liver were done in eleven cases.
The following results were obtained:
1. The peak incidence of age was observd in the second decade.
Male was more prevalent than f male wit a ratio of 4:1 in sex distribution.
2. The abnormal findings in conventional liver function tests and STT occurred, ith the incidence of 74% in STT, 30% in BSP, 20% in alka fine phosphatase and 14% in SGOT respectively.
3. The severity of impaired conventional liver function tests seemed not to be related to the extent of the pulmonary lesion or cavity status on chest films and duration of the illness.
But the STT was more significantly impaired in cavitary cases than in non-cavitary ones. There was a slight tendency for STT abnormalities to increase with the increasing extent- of the pulmonary lesion.
4. Histopathologic changes of 8 biopsied cases revealed various entities granulomatous hepatitis, mononuclear cell infiltration, mild fatty change and hydropic degeneration of the liver.
These were more closely related to the abnormalities of STT than BSP.
